Saltese Montana, first known as Silver City, was renamed
in 1891 to honor a Nez Perce chieftain, Chief Saltese. Just 10 miles east of
the Idaho border on I-90, Saltese is beautifully situated in the Bitterroot
Range in Lolo National Forest. Saltese is conveniently located between Coeur
dAlene Idaho (71 mi.), and Missoula Montana (96 mi.), with a number of
additional small to mid size towns in-between. Several National Forest Trails
begin in this small scenic town. The Old Montana Bar, Grill & Casino is
located in this old mining and logging town. The building has been here since
the early 1900s, and features a beautiful old oak antique bar here that is over
100 years old.
